Unlimited Web Hosting?
Web hosting packages come in various sizes, but many companies are now offering "unlimited" disk space, bandwidth, and even addon domains. Yes, unlmited packages are too good to be true. As you start building multiple websites you will run into one of the following problems:
- Many hosting companies state that their plans are "unlimited" but in the terms of use it clearly states that they place harsh limits on your package. For example after you have a collection of websites on their server bandwidth usage and CPU usage will start to increase dramatically. Normally at this point the company will contact you about the over use of the server's resources.
- After you are warned about the over use of your resources the company will normally push you to buy a VPS or dedicated server. Yes, both of these would be much better choices for multiple websites but you do not need to be pushed into buying one from them.
- Another issue that arises with "unlimited" plans is storage. Many plans claim to offer unlimited storage, but in reality the terms of use state that only files that are to be used in normal operation of the website can be stored. Pretty much saying "you may only host what we want you to host, to make your site operational, additional files are prohibited."
